Playing for your partner is everything. That resulted in prestigious state victories for two duos in 2024. For Ronda Henderson and Regina Quintero, winning the championship turned out to be as easy as 1-2-3.

Henderson posted a hole-in-one (1), added a birdie on a par-3 (2) and also birdied a par-4 (3) over the first nine holes of the opening round to keep the team within striking distance after the first day.

The ace was Henderson’s second in competition with both coming in Nevada State Women’s Partner action. The previous one came in 2016.

Henderson and Quintero came into the final round trailing by four strokes but a seven-under-par round the second day–sparked by three birdies by Quintero over the first eight holes–helped them to the victory.

Henderson and Quintero were third in the 2023 event which was held at Bears Best.

“We had a really good comeback,” Quintero said. “When either one of us dropped out of a hole, the other one stepped up and finished strong.”

Quintero said despite the team trailing by four heading into the second day, the confidence was still high.

“We knew we were chasing four shots,” she said. “And we knew we had to start off strong on the first nine. We had four birdies on the first nine so we knew we had a shot.”

They kept the pressure on and then stepped to the 18th tee.

“One of the key shots of the tournament came on the 18th hole,” Quintero said. “I asked Ronda if she wanted to know where we stood and she said yes. I told her if we par the hole, we win. We both put our tee shots in the middle of the fairway. I kind of duffed my second shot but Ronda hit a shot that just rolled off the back. That was the shot and that was when I was comfortable we were going to win because there was no way Ronda was going to three-putt.”

It’s the second time the duo has won the partners event.

“It’s all about teamwork,” Quintero said. “We played steady golf. I disappeared a couple of times but Ronda stepped up and played great. Then I managed to hit a few shots close or make a putt if Ronda was in trouble. It’s all about making sure one of you is always in the hole.”

The duo of Millburn Ho and Adeline Show, a daughter-mother team, got off to a quick start the first day en route to winning the Net crown.

They won in a playoff over Alexandria Reiley-Elizabeth Anderson.

After a par on their first hole of the tournament, Ho holed out from the fairway for an eagle on their second hole and the team was off and running.

For the first day, the team had the eagle to go along with seven birdies (six natural and one net).

This was the team’s second straight title in this event.

“It was great being able to defend our title,” Ho said. “But it’s unfortunate we didn’t win the gross title. We will be back to go for three in a row next year…but we want to win the gross.”

Ho said the eagle, a chip-in from 72 yards, gave the duo confidence from the start.

“It took one bounce and straight into the hole,” Ho said. “It definitely got us off to a good start to our round and we just kept it up.”

Show made a net par on the first playoff hole but said it was Ho’s play the first day that was the key for the team.

“My daughter shot 66 the first day and put us in a really good spot,” she said.
